Broader view pushed on former Finance Minister
There are calls out today for further investigations into the sacked former NSW Finance Minister.
The New South Wales Opposition has submitted a formal letter to the Department and state Government asking for the seizure of one-time Finance Minister Greg Pearce's documents, to save them from the shredder.
Mr Pearce was sacked after a widespread controversy surrounding a conflict of interest in his recommendation of his own wife's boss be appointed to the board of Sydney Water in 2011.
The Opposition has called for all appointments weighed-in on by Mr Pearce to be reviewed. New South Wales Premier Barry O'Farrel had previously stood by the Finance Minister, but has decried Pearce's actions since full revelations have been made.
Mr Pearce will be hoping his sacking is the end of a string of controversies surrounding him; he was accused of being drunk in Parliament earlier this year, and breaching ministerial travel rules. He is reportedly furious over the sacking.
NSW Opposition Leader John Robertson said the dismissal was well overdue: “This is a minister who's had very serious questions raised about his behaviour, about the use of taxpayer funds for weekend travel and board appointments,” he said, “instead of sacking Greg Pearce two months ago, the Premier's been running a protection racket, protecting this minister by refusing to have these matters referred to the ICAC.”
